<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for managing a recording medium of a write-once type and defect information on the recording medium of the write-once type (e.g., BD-WO). Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method includes a temporary defect management area (TDMA) for recording a temporary defect list (TDFL) as defect management information for managing a defect area in an optical disk, wherein the method includes: cumulatively recording a latest temporary defect list (TDFL) with a previous temporary defect list (TDFL) in the temporary defect management area (TDMA); and recording positional information designating the position of the latest temporary defect list (TDFL) in the temporary defect management area (TDMA) with the temporary defect list.
