<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the wrong operation of a user in an input method for automatically determining an input character after the lapse of a fixed time since a character has been input. <P>SOLUTION: A character input device is provided with: a terminal control unit for accepting information of character candidates as the candidates of input decision characters, and for performing the display processing of the character candidates, and for generating a guide image in which an image changes according to a residual time until the input character candidates are determined; and a display unit for displaying the character candidates and the guide image, and configured to display the guide image changing according to the residual time until the input characters are determined.
