PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monopole antenna in which a radiation element and a ground plate are disposed on the same plane, and which can be almost omnidirectional. SOLUTION: This monopole antenna has a structure in which the radiation element 12 and the ground plate 11 are disposed on the same plane, wherein the radiation element 12 and the ground plate 11 have loop shapes, the peripheral shapes of the radiation element 12 and the ground plate 11 are line-symmetric with respect to a first straight line A traversing both the shapes, and a part of the peripheral shape of the radiation element 12 and a part of the peripheral shape of the ground plate 11, at which the radiation element 12 and the ground plate 11 face in proximity each other, are line-symmetric with respect to a second straight line B orthogonally intersecting the first straight line A.
