PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a heat-treatment strain with proper intensity in easiness for cooling depending on a portion according to the shape of a member to be heat-treated without cooling the whole surfaces of the member to be heat-treated all at once. SOLUTION: The quenching method preventing the heat-treatment strain includes a heat-transfer rate reducing means to a portion where the cooling is easily advanced and/or a heat-transfer rate promoting means to a portion where the cooling is delayed, for the quenching object members 11, 21, in order to prevent deformation caused by the heat-treatment strain and thus, the quenching treatment for the quenching object members 11, 21, is carried out. Especially, for the gear 11 having a projected protruding part 14 on the end-surface, the gear 11 is placed on a gear-placing basket provided with heat-shielding tools 15 fitted into the projected protruding parts 14 to carry out the quenching treatment.
