The invented method of cooling burner bodies of heating furnaces or the like devices burning gaseous fuels at a time when heating is interrupted is characterized in that combustion products leaving the heating furnace or the like device represent the cooling medium. The heating furnace or the like device burning gaseous fuels is provided with a burner cooled in the above-indicated manner wherein there is arranged a pipe for conducting combustion products to burners, which are to be cooled, said pipe withdrawing combustion products from a flue tract at the inlet to a chimney after recuperator for preheating combustion air and the pipe has its outlet in an air duct in front of the cooled burners, wherein there are further arranged air supply closing means and/or closing means of the pipe for conducting combustion products. Such heating furnace or the like device is controlled such that temperature of the cooling combustion products is maintained by a controlled addition of air below a preset maximum temperature, preferably below 400 degC, and pressure in the pipe for conducting cooling combustion products is controlled so as to correspond to pressure of combustion air.
