<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a useful catalyst for an asymmetric 1,4-addition reaction to an α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compound. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The 9-aralkyloxy-6'-hydroxy cinchona alkaloid (6) is introduced from 6'-hydroxy cinchona alkaloid (1).
