Improvements relating to the washing and after-treatment of threads of regenerated celloulose

Washing and after - treatment of groups of parallel regenerated cellulose threads is effected by leading the groups of threads downwardly and upwardly over pairs of rollers arranged in an upper and a lower series pairs, the upper and lower series being in staggered relationship so that the descending threads follow a substantially vertical path and pass through troughs containing the washing or treating liquid, leaving the troughs through small apertures so as to entrain a thin sheath of the liquid. All the rollers or only the upper rollers of each pair may be driven. As shown in Figs. 1-3, the threads pass over pairs of rollers 1, 2 and on their downward run pass through troughs 3 containing the washing or treating liquid, leaving the bottom of the trough through a series of apertures 7. The trough may be made in two parts, one part 9 being fixed and having the apertures 7 formed therein as a series of notches, the other part 10 being pivotally mounted so that it can be swung clear to facilitate threading up. The part 10 is clamped in its operative position, gasket 8 making the trough liquid-tight. Comb-guides 6 may be used to keep threads separated on the upward run. Lower rollers 2 may dip into a bath 5 of the washing or treating liquid. In a modification, Fig. 4, the trough may be of the section shown, the threads running through a series of notches 4 and entraining liquid which is maintained in an overflowing condition in the trough.
