Method for manufacturing turbine wheels

A method for forming a turbine wheel defining a hub and a plurality of blades extending outwardly from the hub. The method comprising the steps of shaping a blank such that a profile of the shaped blank is closer to a corresponding profile of an intended final turbine wheel than the unshaped blank and machining the shaped blank to form the final turbine wheel. At least one of said shaping and machining steps comprises non-contact machining such as laser, electrochemical or electro-discharge machining.
