Disclosed is a method and apparatus for testing a circuit breaker, the circuit breaker being connected to a circuit having at least an active and an earth. The apparatus includes means to perform a first test and a second test on the circuit breaker. The first test is to determine whether the circuit breaker will trip when a first predetermined current is leaked form active to earth. The second test is to determine whether the circuit breaker will trip when a second predetermined current is leaked from active to earth. The first and second tests are carried out in sequence, and if the circuit breaker does not trip during the first test, the second test is automatically initiated.
