Method optimising radio connections in mobile telecommunications network

A method of establishing a data link between a terminal device and a data service over a radio connection between a mobile terminal and a base station in a Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) network is disclosed. A request for a data link to be established is received from the mobile terminal. The request includes an access point name primarily indicative of the data service to which access is desired. A radio connection between the mobile terminal and the base station is established. A data link over the radio connection between the terminal device and the indicated data service is established. The access point name is secondarily indicative of the type of terminal device in use. A set of radio connection optimisation parameters is determined on the basis of the primary and secondary indications. The radio connection is established according to the optimisation parameters.
