A trawl pelagic door (10) for use with a trawl net is disclosed. The door (10) significantly reduces the drag of a total trawl system, thus conserving fuel. The door (10) has leading and trailing edges and an upper (32) and lower section (34). Each section has a main deflector body with an outer side convex surface and has a leading and trailing edges. Each main deflector body has at least one curved slat on the leading edge, whose leading edge is disposed forward of the leading edge of a main deflector body. The aspect ratio of the door (10) is at least 2:1. The two main deflector bodies and their associated slats lie in different planes that diverge and have an angle of less than one hundred eighty degrees. The relationship between slat and main deflection body curvature and the relative locations of these parts is disclosed.
