<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotating shaft device capable of preventing a coolant fluid from entering a clearance between a rotating shaft and a housing. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The rotating shaft device includes a cylindrical housing 1 having a storage space 3, a main shaft spindle 2 rotatably stored in the storage space via a bearing 13, and separated by a clearance 30 having a cylindrical shape between the inner peripheral surface of the housing and itself, a seal means 6 for suppressing the coolant fluid from entering the clearance, a porous water-absorbing member 5 arranged in at least one of the housing and the main spindle, while being opposite to the clearance, a detection means 4 for detecting that the water-absorbing member has absorbed the coolant fluid, and at least one of a fluid entering prevention means 91 for preventing the coolant fluid from entering the clearance according to the detected result of the detection means and a shaft stopping means 92 for stopping the rotation of the main shaft spindle according to the detection result of the detection means.
