<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital broadcast receiver reducing a processing load by reducing a seek time when sequentially searching for services in the same ensemble by a sequentially-advancing key or the like. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Code rates representing protection levels based on services in the same ensemble are stored; a reception incapability level representing a protection level used as a reference in determining whether a reception process is carried out is previously updated and stored; and, when services to be received in the same ensemble are instructed to be sequentially advanced, a reception level stored in a reception incapability level storage part is compared with a reception level of the services instructed by a sequentially-advancing instruction part, and only the services each having a reception level higher than the reception incapability level are subjected to the reception process. When a level higher than the level stored in the reception incapability level storage part by one rank is received, only the levels equal to or higher than that level are received from then on. In detecting the reception of the lowest level, all the levels are received from then on and, in detecting the incapability of the reception of the lowest level, none of the levels are received from then on.
