<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner for an elevator, capable of preventing the deterioration of comfortableness inside a car by controlling an air conditioning machine in response to the crowding condition inside the car. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The air conditioner for the elevator includes: an air conditioning machine 1 provided in a car to perform air conditioning inside the car; a temperature-humidity detecting section 3 for detecting the temperature and the humidity inside the car; an air conditioning control device 2 for controlling the air conditioning machine 1 based on the temperature inside the car or the temperature and the humidity inside the car; and further, a car-inside load detecting section 4 for detecting a load inside the car. When the temperature inside the car or the temperature and the humidity inside the car exceeds a predetermined temperature and a predetermined humidity and a load inside the car exceeds a predetermined load, the air conditioning control device 2 executes the load control for controlling the air conditioning machine 1 so that the temperature and the humidity inside the car become lower than the predetermined temperature and the predetermined humidity by raising the ability of the air conditioning machine 1 higher than the ability to be set in the normal control.
