<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To convert color data included in a first color reproduction region into color data in a second color reproduction region in accordance with the characteristics of the color reproduction regions. Ž<P>SOLUTION: As to a target point which is included in the first color reproduction region but is not included in the second color reproduction region, an optimum landing point is determined by retrieving points in the second color reproduction region, whose distances (color differences) from the target point in the color space are small and the color data of the target point is mapped to the optimum landing point. The optimum point can be retrieved on the basis of distances (color differences), and also of various elements such as granular states and gradations which may have an effect on output image quality.
