<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module in which engagement of an engaging part is released from the engaged part of a cage by either pushing or pulling operation. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The optical module 1 includes: its body 2 having engagement parts 2a, 2b, and a projected part 21, which is engaged with an engaging click (not illustrated) provided on the cage (not illustrated), when the projected part is mounted on the cage; a leaf spring part 4, which is disposed between the body 2 and the engagement click when mounted, and deformed so as to abut to the engaging click when a front end pat 4c which is abutted against the engagement part 2a in insertion direction and a rear end part 4d which is abutted to the engagement part 2b in pulling-out direction are pressurized, a direction of approaching to each other; and a movable part 3, which are movable in both the insertion direction and pulling-out direction, with respect to the body 2 and has an engaging part 31a which is engaged with the front end part 4c of the leaf spring part 4 in the pulling-out direction and an engagement part 31b, which is engaged with the rear-end part 4b of the leaf spring part 4 in the direction of insertion.
