PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric washing machine for preventing a user from opening a washing machine lid during a high-speed rotation even if the user immediately attempts to open it after being given a notification of abnormality of a rotation sensor by suspending the notification of the abnormality of the rotation sensor until the rotation speed of a rotating tub or a pulsator decreases enough when the abnormality occurs in the rotation sensor. SOLUTION: The electric washing machine includes: the rotation sensor 47 for detecting the rotation of the rotating tub 4 or the pulsator 5; a driving control means 45 for controlling the rotation of the rotating tub or the pulsator; a means 45 for monitoring the abnormality of the rotation sensor which determines that the rotation sensor is not normal when a rotation detecting signal is not input from the rotation sensor while a driving control circuit outputs a rotation instruction of the rotating drum or the pulsator; and a means 49 for notifying the sensor abnormality which notifies the abnormality of the rotation sensor after waiting for a predetermined waiting period when the means for monitoring abnormality of the rotation sensor outputs a decision indicating that the rotation sensor is not normal.
