<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-alloy high-purity ferritic stainless steel having excellent corrosion resistance without causing deterioration in productivity and workability and also without depending on the addition of rare elements, and to provide a method for producing the low-alloy high-purity ferritic stainless steel. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The ferritic stainless steel contains 0.001 to 0.02% C, 0.01 to 0.6% Si, 0.01 to 0.6% Mn, 0.005 to 0.04% P, 0.0001 to 0.01% S, 13 to 22% Cr, 0.001 to 0.02% N, 0.005 to 0.05% Al and 0.001 to 1% Sn, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. After finish annealing, the steel is retained in the temperature range of 200 to 700°C for ≥1 min and is subjected to pickling treatment in a water solution comprising nitric acid of ≥5 wt.%, or is subjected to bright annealing in an atmospheric gas comprising gaseous hydrogen of ≥50 vol.%, and the balance gaseous nitrogen, wherein the dew point of the atmospheric gas is -50 to -20°C.
