PURPOSE: A cellular phone with a family radio service and an operating method thereof are provided to use a vocoder used for a platform of the cellular phone, thereby realizing a baseband part without additional voice processing hardware. CONSTITUTION: An audio processing unit(110) outputs an extracted voice data through a speaker in case of a walkie-talkie receiving mode. An input unit(170) is a user input interface with a plurality of input keys. The input unit includes a PTT button supporting a PTT(Push-To-Talk) function in walkie-talkie communication. A controller(100) performs a walkie-talkie transmitting mode when the PTT button is pushed in a walkie-talkie mode which the walkie-talkie communication is performed.
