摘要 |
The invention comprises epoxidized acetylated castor oil and esters of epoxidized acetylated ricinoleic acid with a primary aliphatic alcohol containing from one to six carbon atoms, e.g. butyl alcohol. The new epoxy esters may be prepared from acetylated castor oil or the acetylated ricinoleic acid ester by reaction with (1) an acetic acid solution of peracetic acid, (2) a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and formic acid, or (3) a mixture of acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide using as catalyst a granular cationexchanger in the acid form. Detailed examples describe the epoxidation of the butyl ester of acetylated ricinoleic acid (prepared by butanolysis of castor oil and subsequent acetylation with acetic anhydride) and of acetylated castor oil by the above three methods. The products are useful as plasticizers for vinyl chloride polymers.ALSO:Vinyl chloride polymers and copolymers, such as copolymers of vinyl chloride with vinylidene chloride or vinyl acetate are plasticized with epoxidized acetylated castor oil, or esters of epoxidized acetylated ricinoleic acid with a primary aliphatic alcohol containing from one to six carbon atoms (see Group IV (b)). The compositions may contain additional plasticizers such as dioctyl phthalate or dinonyl phthalate and stabilizers, e.g. white lead, barium or cadmium ricinoleate. |
