A parasol which can be reduced to a small size by dismantling comprises a substantially circular assembly 3 of a plurality of resilient rods which are coupled together at their ends and a stiffening rib 4 holding taut a flexible cover 5, which assembly is connected at a circumferential point by means of a toggle joint assembly 2 to a metal supporting rod 1 formed of a number of connected sections. The assembly 3 comprises a number of flexible metal rods 13, Fig. 2, of rectangular crosssection connected in a circle by sleeves 14 each of which is preferably welded to the end of one of the rods 13. The cover 5 of linen or other suitable material is attached to the assembly by means of a series of rings or hooks 15. The stiffening rib 4 is constituted by two or more tubular metal elements 16 connected by means of sleeves 17 and has a pin at one end which engages a hole in one of the sleeves 14 while the tubular portion 16, Fig. 8, at the other end engages a pivot 21' provided on a screw clamp which clamps two metal discs 23 and 24 and a rubber disc 25 between a head 21" and a wing nut 22. The disc 23 is welded to one of the sleeves 14. A half-disc 27 provided with holes 31 is welded to the disc 24 and is mounted in a slot in the head 6 of the stick 1 by means of a clamp 29. The position of the half-disc 27 is determined by a pin 32 which engages a selected one of the holes 31. The end of the stick 1 is driven into the ground and the plane of the cover can be adjusted to any desired position. The parts when dismantled can be packed in a bag which may be provided with carrying straps. |
