<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat knitting machine preventing rejection of yarn wastes, increasing flexibility of holding, and shortening the length of end yarns. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The flat knitting machine includes each suction nozzle 39 mounted between grippers 3 and 4. The suction nozzle 39 has a suction port 39a opening in the form of an oblong slot, and the surrounding air can be sucked from the suction port 39a. The suction force utilizes negative pressure generated when discharging compressed air from a discharging nozzle 42 to a dust box 43. Knitting yarns are inserted, and directly cut by a cutter 5 to release the grippers 3 and 4. Thus, the end yarns on the side of a knitted fabric can be shortened. The period of holding the knitting yarns with the grippers 3 and 4 is shortened to increase the flexibility of the holding. Although the yarns held on the side of the grippers 3 and 4 become the yarn wastes, the suction nozzle 39 can be operated to remove the yarn wastes from the suction port 39a.
