A refiner comprises a rotor (R) arranged rotatable around an axis inside a stator (S) and comprising blades arranged on the circumference of the rotor, opposite the stator, wherein an annular refining space is formed between the rotor and the stator, extending in the axial direction and having a blade clearance between the blades and the inner surface of the stator (S). The feeding means (1) of the refiner are arranged to feed high-consistency pulp to the refining space. The blade clearance is 0.5 to 5 mm, advantageously 1 to 3 mm.
