PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus which can be filled up with liquid at a high speed without raising the pressure of a channel. SOLUTION: The recording apparatus includes a recording head which has a liquid chamber for storing liquid and a nozzle for discharging liquid, a tank for storing the liquid to be fed to the recording head, a liquid supply passage for feeding the liquid to the liquid chamber from the tank, a feed pump installed in the middle of the liquid supply passage, a liquid reflux way for refluxing the liquid to the tank from the liquid chamber, a reflux pump installed in the middle of the liquid reflux way, and a control means for controlling the drive of the feed pump and the reflux pump. The control means makes the feed pump driven after making the inside of the liquid chamber a negative pressure state by driving the reflux pump when the liquid chamber is filled with the liquid at the initial stage.
