PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a "navigation system and a method for presenting destination candidate information" which enable reduction of the number of destination candidates to be presented as selecting objects so as to facilitate selection by a user and also make it possible to make the reduced destination candidates include, with a higher degree of probability, a point having a high possibility to be set as the destination by the user, in the case when the desired destination is selected from the past set destination history and set. SOLUTION: Information on a traveling locus is formed by correlating the destination, each of a plurality of road links composing the traveling loci to the destination and a road forward direction on the occasion of going forward to the destination with each other. The destination on the traveling locus whereon the road forward direction of the road links corresponding to the position of a user's own vehicle coincides with the direction of advance of the user's own vehicle, among the traveling loci including the position of the user's own vehicle, is acquired from the information, and the acquired destination is presented as the destination candidate information. Thereby, only the past destination that was reached from the position of the user's own vehicle by traveling in the advance direction of the vehicle is presented as the destination candidate.
