PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus which can prevent image quality degradation of characters and line images in the case of printing the characters and line images at an overlapping section. SOLUTION: The printing apparatus includes (A) a line head which includes a first basic head and a second basic head with a plurality of nozzles in a predetermined direction, and in which the first basic head and the second basic head are arranged in the predetermined direction to form the overlapping section along the predetermined direction, and (B) a controller which controls the first basic head and the second basic head when at least either of a printing medium and the line head moves in a direction that intersects the predetermined direction, and which controls the first basic head and the second basic head so that the contour of the character or line image is printed using one of the first basic head and the second basic head without using the other if the character or line image is included in an image printable by the overlapping section.
