Class 82(2) [Also in Group XXXVI] A dry rectifier is produced by coating a carrier electrode with at least one layer of selenium which is crystalized by heating to between 110‹C. and 140‹C. and then a further layer of am-orphous selenium is applied, covered by the counter electrode and then converted to the crystalline state. The process promotes the chemical reaction between the counter electrode and the selenium. If the counter electrode contains cadmium for example, cadmium selenide would be produced. In Fig. 1, carrier electrodes 1 are attached to a revolving drum 2, and coated with selenium from vapour coating means 4. Heat radiators 6 are disposed around the drum for heating the selenium to convert it to the crystalline state. In a modification, a rotating disc is used instead of a drum. The final selenium coating may be between 1 and 10Á thick. A halogen and a further additive may be added to the selenium as described in Specifications 784,782, 784,783, 784,784, and 784,785 [all in Group XXXVI].</p> |
