PURPOSE: A drug delivery system containing a biocompatible polymer and a hydrophobic group is provided to be used in the adsorption of a synthetic drug with low water solubility and to control the release rate of adsorbed drug. CONSTITUTION: A drug delivery system comprises a biocompatible polymer and hydrophobic group which is conjugated to the polymer. The biocompatible polymer is synthetic polymer or natural polymer. The hydrophobic group is an aliphatic compound or aromatic compound of 4 or more carbon atoms. A chitosan-benzoic acid conjugate is formed by conjugated benzoic acid to chitosan by amide bond and is represented by chemical formula III(R_1-NH-CO-R_2).
