PURPOSE: A backlight unit for a liquid crystal display device is provided to supply a uniform planar light source to a liquid crystal panel while reducing power consumption. CONSTITUTION: In a first light guide plate(123a), a first area with a pattern and a second area without a pattern cross each other. In a second light guide plate(123b), a third area with a pattern and a fourth area without a pattern cross each other. In first and second LED assemblies(130,140), LEDs are mounted along with the longitudinal direction of FPCBs(135,145).
