<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader for improving the use efficiency of a memory, an image forming apparatus having the image reader, an image reading method, and an image reading program. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The capacity of a memory area which is secured in advance is minimized, and a memory area to be secured is increased before a free region of the memory area secured in advance is used up to thereby prevent an undesired memory area from being secured during image reading.
