PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent method for producing one or more 4-ADPA intermediates by reacting aniline with nitrobenzene in the presence of a strong base and a phase transfer catalyst or in the presence of an organic base and an inorganic salt or a metal-organic salt. SOLUTION: This invention provides a method for producing 4-aminodiphenylamine or a substituted derivative thereof by bringing aniline or an aniline derivative and nitrobenzene or a nitrobenzene derivative into reactive contact and reacting the aniline or the aniline derivative with the nitrobenzene or the nitrobenzene derivative in the presence of a strong base, a suitable phase transfer catalyst, and an oxidizing agent in a confined zone for a suitable time at suitable pressure and a suitable temperature.
