<p>A multicore optical fiber comprises a plurality of core sections and a clad section positioned on the outer peripheries of the respective core sections. The clad section has a flat portion on at least a part of the circumference thereof in the cross section vertical to the longitudinal direction thereof, and the remaining part of the circumference has a circular shape. Preferably, the circumference of the clad section has a rectangular shape formed of four flat portions. Also preferably, one side of the flat portion or the rectangular shape of the clad section is tilted relative to the line of symmetry in the arrangement of the core sections in the cross section. Consequently, the easily connectable multicore optical fiber can be provided.</p> |
