[Also in Group XXVI] A pair of contacts 6, 7 are arranged to be operated by a centrifugal governor (see Group XXVI) at a predetermined speed which can be varied by the rotary movement of an adjusting member arranged for both direct manual operation and also rotation by an electric motor 23 through a reduction gearing 24 and a slip coupling 26, 29. As shown applied to controlling the speed of an electrode feed-motor 4, the disc 2 of the governor is mounted on the shaft 3 and carries the two resiliently-mounted contacts 6, 7, the contact 6 being flexibly mounted on a spring 8 so that, at the predetermined speed under centrifugal action, it moves out of engagement with the adjustable contact 7, the maximum degree of movement being limited by a stop-pin 15. The position of the latter contact may be manually adjusted by a knob 18 connected to a screw 9 which acts directly against a crank-lever 12 connected by a rod 14 to the contact; the degree of rotation of the knob is indicated by a graduated dial 21. The adjusting-screw 9 may also be rotated by a disc 26 of plastics material secured to the screw and urged into frictional contact by a spring 29 with a shoulder 27 formed on a shaft 25 which is driven through the reduction-gearing 24 by the electric motor 23; the motor, which is reversible, is clamped to the governor housing 10 and may be remote-controlled. |
