PURPOSE: An optical disc device and a recording speed control method in the optical disc device are provided to enhance recording performance by reducing the time spent on performing a recording operation in an optical disc device and to decrease recording time. CONSTITUTION: A recording speed control method in an optical disc device comprises next steps. A tracking error and a focus error are detected while recording on the optical disc(S204). Whether the tracking error and the focus error decided exceed a first predetermined value or not is determined(S206). As a result of the determination, if yes, the number of times being exceeded is counted and is compared with a second predetermined value(S212). A recording speed is controlled depending on the comparison result(S216). As a result of the comparison, if the number of times counted exceeds the second predetermined value, the recording speed is controlled to a lower speed.
