PURPOSE: A low illuminance backlight compensating device and a method thereof are provided to efficiently prevent a color of a light source from being distorted. CONSTITUTION: A CCD driving unit(15) drives output of a CCD. An analog gain adjusting unit(16) adjusts the gain of an output signal of the CCD. A backlight detecting unit(21) detects a low illuminance backlight photographing state. A microcomputer(22) performs a low illuminance backlight compensating operation. The microcomputer alternatively outputs a CCD output pulse of a long cycle and a CCD output pulse of a short cycle within one vertical drive section in case of a low illuminance backlight.
