Disclosed is an electric fence system which includes the use of wireless communications technology. The use of wireless technology allows component parts to be physically separated, meaning the individual parts can be placed in convenient positions and extra parts can be added without additional wiring or re-certification. The system includes an energiser module (103) to provide pulses to the fence (101), the module including a first wireless communication device. A monitoring module (109) is provided to monitor the pulses, the monitoring module also including a wireless communication device. A control module (111), including a third wireless communication device, can receive information from the monitoring module and control the energiser module.
