PURPOSE: An apparatus for processing a digital image and a method for controlling the same are provided to automatically adjust a zoom level by recognizing the intention of a user. CONSTITUTION: A distance measuring part(370) measures a distance between the main body of a digital image processing apparatus and a user. A zoom adjuster(380) adjusts the zoom level of an input image. A controller(320) adjusts the zoom level based on the distance. The distance measuring part includes a distance sensor which is arranged on the rear side of the main body.
