The invention relates to a composition for the induction of angiogenesis and vascularisation, comprising oleuropein as active ingredient. This ability to induce angiogenesis and vascularisation can be used in general to prepare therapeutic compositions or in specific applications in which differentiation of stem cells into endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) and/or mature endothelial cells, together with induction of the formation of blood vessels from such endothelial cells, is desired. Cardiovascular diseases, ischaemic processes in general, ulcers and wound cicatrisation are among the pathologies which can be treated with this angiogenic and vascularisation-inducing composition.
