<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compatibly achieve improvement of fuel economy and good drivability by optimizing a start period of fuel cut control. <P>SOLUTION: An engine ECU estimates an engine torque based on a torque of a motor generator in detecting various state amounts of the engine (S11). The engine ECU determines whether a predetermined fuel cut execution condition (an accelerator opening degree is approximately zero in a state where a vehicle speed is faster than a predetermined speed) is satisfied or not (S14) when a predetermined fuel cut prohibition condition is not satisfied (NO in S13). When the fuel cut execution condition is satisfied (YES in S14), the engine ECU further determines whether the engine torque is below a predetermined threshold value (S15).
