PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a polyester resin composition which is excellent in color tone and suitable for optical applications. SOLUTION: This production method of a polyester resin composition is characterized in that in the production of a polyester resin composition by subjecting terephthalic acid and/or naphthalenedicarboxylic acid containing an aldehyde acid in an amount of 0.1 to 0.5 mol/ton, based on the amount of the polyester resin composition, and ethylene glycol to an esterification reaction and a polycondensation reaction, a phosphonite compound and/or a phosphite compound are(is) added to the reaction mixture in an amount of 20 ppm or more and 150 ppm or less in terms of a phosphorus atom based on the polyester, and in the amount satisfying the equation (I): 5≤P/AA≤30 (Equation (I)) (where P and AA represent a content of a phosphorus atom and an added amount of an aldehyde acid respectively in an unit of mol/ton (based on the amount of the polyester resin composition)), during the period until the intrinsic viscosity of the reaction mixture reaches 0.3 after the completion of the esterification reaction.
