The support (1) has a bearing plate (2) and a frame (3) carrying the bearing plate. A base part (5) protects the bearing plate and two side parts (6) cover a part of the frame. The side parts are laterally arranged at the base part in a longitudinal direction of the side parts. The base part and the side parts are made of a completely transparent material against X-ray radiation. The base part and/or the side parts are made polyethylene foam or polyurethane foam and are made with a fiber reinforced composite material with a polymer matrix. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a support for a patient receiving table.
