The method involves supplying the carbon dioxide-containing flue gas to an absorbent fluid by generating a bubble column in a sump volume (2) or in a reaction volume (3) of an absorber or an absorption column (1). The gas stream, particularly the flue gas is supplied to the sump volume or the reaction volume of the absorber or the absorption columns by a regenerative gassing stirrer (10) or a jet nozzle disperser. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an absorber or absorption column; and (2) a flue gas treatment system for a fossil-fired power plant.
