PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for detecting bacteria belonging to the genus Campylobacter by utilizing cell expansion lethal toxin (cdt) gene. SOLUTION: The method which enables the simultaneous detection of a plurality of the bacteria (Campylobacter jejuni, Campylobacter coli and Campylobacter fetus) belonging to the Campylobacter in high species-specificity uses multiplex PCR by using primers capable of species-specifically amplifying the cdt genes of a plurality of the bacteria belonging to the Campylobacter. According to the method, campylobacters can be identified at the species level by a single operation in the case of mixed infection of livestock animals or humans with the bacteria belonging to the genus Campylobacter.
