PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing 2-(6-substituted-1,3-dioxan-4-yl) acetic acid derivatives. SOLUTION: A method for the conversion of group X to group OY in a 2-(6-substituted-1,3-dioxane-4-yl) acetic acid derivative of formula (2) in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst and an oxylating agent by using a quaternary phosphonium ion as a phase-transfer catalyst and by using an OY ion as the oxylating agent. X stands for a halogen; R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each independently 1-4C alkyl, or R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>form 5- or 6-membered cycloalkyl together with the C atom to which they are bound; and Y stands for R<SP>A</SP>-CO- or for R<SP>B</SP>-SO<SB>2</SB>- wherein R<SP>A</SP>, R<SP>B</SP>are chosen from the group of 1-12C alkyl or aryl.
