PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical gas detector for obtaining a stable sensor output regardless of a characteristic of a light emitting diode, reliably implementing a desired gas detection, and obtaining the high productivity. SOLUTION: The optical gas detector includes: a gas detecting element for presenting or changing a color by an action of a to-be-detected gas; a to-be-inspected gas supplying mechanism for bringing the gas detecting element into contact with the to-be-inspected gas; the light emitting diode for irradiating the gas detecting element bringing the to-be-inspected gas in contact with light; a light diode driving power supply circuit for driving the light emitting diode; an optical detector for detecting a reflection light from the gas detecting element; and a light quantity stabilizing control means for controlling the light emitting diode so as to maintain a constant light emission quantity.
