The method involves an image acquisition unit recording the patient and reproducing images on a screen and image processing supporting patient positioning. A computer unit knows the spatial correlation between the coordinate system of handling and image acquisition devices. At least one body region is automatically detected by image processing and a scan region selectively covering at least this region is automatically suggested on the screen. The medical diagnosis or therapy device has a treatment unit (1), a computer unit (7) and an adjustable patient couch (2). An image acquisition unit (4,5) records the patient (6) and reproduces images on a screen (8) and image processing supports patient positioning.
