PURPOSE: A method for detecting the film mode or camera mode is provided, which controls the flicker on the TV screen. CONSTITUTION: A histogram difference value between the histogram of the video frame and the histogram of the next video frame is calculated(E2). A difference parameter about each video frame is created(E3) after comparing the histogram difference value of each video frame of sequence with at least one comparison value. Mode information is created(E4), which distinguishes the film mode or the camera mode of the sequence, after comparing the pattern formed by the values of difference parameters with plural predetermined patterns.
