PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus for attaining matching of the exposure characteristics of an image picked up by using an electronic shutter for a leading curtain and a mechanical shutter for a trailing curtain and an image picked up by using the mechanical shutters for both leading and trailing curtains. SOLUTION: When the imaging apparatus is set to the shutter calibration mode, the apparatus generates first image data with a hybrid shutter (electronic shutter for the leading and the mechanical shutter 3 for the trailing curtain) and also generates second image data with an M shutter (mechanical shutter 3 for both leading and trailing curtains). Moreover, a CPU 21 calibrates characteristics of the electronic shutter for the leading of the hybrid shutter to attain matching between the first image data and the second image data.
