<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus that prevents a document from entering a gap between a document scale and a contact glass when the document is set even if there is a warpage or deformation in part of the document scale part. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the image reading apparatus comprising a contact glass 2 on which a document P is mounted, a document scale part 21 having a scale 21b to determine the mount position of the document P, a light source 8 to radiate the document P with light, and an optical reading system to read the light reflected from the document P obtained by the radiation of the light source 8 by a traveling body, the scale 21b of the document scale part 21 is arranged above and apart from the contact glass 2, a document entry preventing member 24 formed separately and having a straight side 23 with which the document P comes into contact is provided in a position under the scale 21b and with which the document P comes into contact when the document P is mounted, and the document entry preventing member 24 is closely fixed on the contact glass 2.
