PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching power supply unit which can be mounted on various sets without depending on the magnitude of load current. SOLUTION: This switching power supply unit has: an output transistor M1; and a control section 1 for turning ON and OFF the output transistor M1. The switching power supply unit generates an output voltage "out" from an input voltage Vcc. The output transistor M1 is configured by connecting transistors M1a, M1b in parallel. The control section 1 individually selects drive or non-drive of the transistors M1a, M1b forming the output transistor M1, and thereby variably controls the current performance of the output transistor M1.
